because my sister has the VU and sent pictures and cost a fortune because we don't have unlimited texting, so will sending pictures cost me?

Yes, MMS are usually a seperate fee from SMS, and if you have an iPhone plan you likely do not have an MMS plan on your account

That's really annoying. When you think that it's just data, and you've got 500MB/month free, it begs the question why. I suppose mobile companies must make their money somewhere.

Just log into your AT&T account and read it yourself. Why would you care for anyone's guess opinion here?

wait, so does MMS count as data?
No.

MMS technology has been around a lot longer than phones have had the ability to use data.

Some carriers consider MMS to be SMS, so they count MMS as text. Other carriers charge separately for MMS.

i read here that if you have an unlimted sms account mms picture, video, audio messages are in the cost.

Just checked my account and the wording only mentions text...now I guess the ball's in AT&Ts court...

BALLS!
If you look at the "messaging" plans available for any other AT&T phone, they say "Send and receive #### text, picture, video, and Instant Messaging (IM) messages."

(where #### depends on the plan .. unlimited, 1500, 500, etc)

... doesn't look like AT&T differentiates between a SMS and a MMS.

I would expect that they update the desc. of the iPhone messaging plans to read like the ones above.

There haven't been extra charges for people using SwirlyMMS, but I wouldn't put it past AT+T to just charge iPhones extra:( when the 3.0 releases for real.

I know it might be different in the UK, but on my old phone, one MMS was counted as 4 text messages from your allowance.
