Do SDXC cards work in the 13"?

Looking at the Apple website, it says that the MBA only has a SD slot...so would it not work?!
 
I haven't noticed a pattern yet (formatting, size), but there are some SDHC cards of mine that do not work in hubby's 2010 MBA directly, but they do when using some kind of card reader.
