I just tried ordering one and got a shipping estimate of June 1~16th here... This sounds rather absurd. FYI I currently live in Tokyo (really close to China, but I don't know what the deal is with this launch.)
In other threads, seems like some people got theirs 7~14 days earlier than expected, and I was wondering if any of you who ordered within the last week (or earlier) got shipping notices.

Mine is scheduled to arrive some time between May 21st and June 6th.

I really don't know what the hold up is. The Yamada denki has base models near my house, but only gold.

Oh wow, don't tell me you preordered it on April 10th.. That would be brutal.
Hm, but are they in US Keyboard layout though? I really can't deal with the Japanese ones.

If they're sold in Japan, wouldn't they be the Japanese keyboards?

I would think 99% of the population in Japan would be upset if not.

Ordered mine (US) April 24th...got it less than a week later (it was estimating 4-6 weeks shipment). Sent from...China.

Ordered 10th, 25 minutes after opening, said 3-4 weeks (6th -13th May). Actually shipped 24th April, arrived in the country the following day. Our couriers are rubbish so I didn't get it until a week later, but that's TNT's fault (and Apple's for using them, I suppose).

I'm in the US and ordered on April 28th. It's scheduled for delivery June 1st - 12th.

Wow... I have no clue why its taking that long o_O

Right, the people will be criticizing Apple for doing that haha. The non-Apple stores that sells Apple devices (Yamada Denki, Bic Camera, etc) only sells in Japanese keyboard, and the Apple Stores are supposed to have both English and Japanese keyboard, although the specialist I called in yesterday told me there will only be supplies for Japanese keyboard at the moment.

Wait, really? Which color/model? I'm highly hopeful now :p

Huh interesting, the arrival date to the country is the same as the Apple watches! The delivery service here in Japan is quite fast, so I'm hoping I wouldn't be getting that one week delay :p

I ordered mine on release day, it said may 15th, I got it two weeks early. I think they are padding the dates to play it safe 1.3/512/SG

Yea, this is what I think is going on at Apple, just playing it safe. I'm just going to put on my order now and see how it goes.

It does not matter how close to China you live. This isn't a shipping problem. They can't build them fast enough to meet the demand due to the constrained availability of certain parts.

Maybe for the US, but for Europe, everyone is getting theirs on the later end of their originally-predicted launch dates. Not sure about the OP for Japan, but so far it seems only the US and Canada have gotten padded shipping dates.

I know, but last time I checked, after the initial pre orders shipments were over, the nearest countries to China got theirs faster simply because of the short distance (the delivery took 2 days, not 7 days.) My apple watch got its shipping notification on Thursday night and got mine on Friday morning, whereas the majority of the people in U.S. got their shipping notice on Monday.

Interesting how European countries are getting theirs pretty darn late. There are some blog posts (obviously in Japanese) here in Japan where people got theirs around the same time as those who ordered on April 10th.
The shipping dates here went from 4~6 weeks to 3~5 weeks in Japan, so I'm supposing the supply line is able to produce a tad bit faster :)

I ordered 1 minute after the store opened on the 10th, said 8.5-15.5, went to preparing for shipment today, so I'll be lucky when it's here around the 13th or so. First time that Apple doesn't make the first date of the date range. :(

Oh I'm in the Netherlands

Yep, I'm sad as well. I ordered mine a few hours after ordering started, ETA is 7-14th of May, and still not preparing for shipment. So it has almost zero chance of arriving tomorrow.

The Apple watch is having the same problems.

Seems like this might be a new way for Apple to release it's new products!

I actually ordered the Apple Watch (a Space Grey 42mm Sports model at that) two minutes past the pre-order openings through Apple Store app on my iPhone, and got my device on the said date 'April 24th.' It turns out I'm very lucky, and the majority of the people had to reorder a blue sports model, etc to get their devices quicker.

This does seem like a good tactic to build up on the hype, but going overboard with 3~4 weeks delay sounds like lack of supply control. If I remember correctly, the iMac 5K also went through delayed shipping up to 5 weeks. I'm just hoping this is all because Apple is trying to produce a device with "much advanced technologies" that the supplies cannot keep up with the demand.

Well, there is building up hype and then there is pissing off your buyers. I liked it the old way so that when Apple introduced a product you could "expect" to see it in a day or two, a week at the latest.

If they do this cr^p on the next iPhone introduction, you are going to see the "fur fly"!

If Apple does this for every single product lunch from now on, I'll be depressed until I get my product for every major event :\ The iOS/Mac OS delay from WWDC to Fall is bad enough as it is...
However, considering how the rMBP 13" is out and selling off the shelves without any supply constraints, I think this is just for the new "new" products :p
