The upgrades they've made to the system warrant a purchase in my book, but I'm still kind of wary of the cosmetics. So what's the verdict, do the new systems still scratch/peel?

I had an original black macbook pretty much since the day it was released, used it for everyday since then and had no peeling of any sort.

scratch your fingernail on the case and tell me what happens... if you dare?

hmm, after doing more research, it seems that this peeling/scratching only happens to a handful of blackbooks? is this widespread? what's the deal?

Well I would break out the scraper and turpentine for you, but I actually sold off the macbook to buy a new MBP last week. But the point is, I actually used the macbook for 6-8hrs a day, for 6 months solid and did not experience any paint peeling.

does that go the same for scratching? thanks for your replies, btw.

I'd imagine you scratch it, it will scratch. Computers scratch, Ferrarri's scratch. Fact of life you'll most likely have to deal with.
