Have interest in moving from Amazon Alexa/Echo Dot to Siri Homepod Minis, but two features we use regularly are:
- Drop-in - for real two-way conversations between rooms
- Phone calls by kids from the voice assistant to the parent's phones, when there is not a phone at home

I have seen 'intercom', which seems more like a 'PA' system, and not the same as opening up a conversation with a room - so, I don't thin that cuts it.

Do these two features exist on home pod?

For the HomePod intercom, you can reply directly to the intercom message, but it’s not a seamless conversation like a phone call. You have to actually say, “Hey, Siri, reply” and then speak intercom reply. Gets annoying. It’s decent for a quick back and forth like, “dinner is ready” and “ok, be right down”

As for the kids’ phone call thing, pretty sure that’s not a feature. I tried with my kids’ and their iPads hoping it would go through using FaceTime audio or whatever but the request failed.

Thanks for letting me know. When I heard intercom, I thought 'great'. But... works more like a PA than an intercom. Maybe they should have called it 'telegraph'.

Bummer there isn't a way to get the kids to be able to call the parents through it.

The HomePod is still way behind since it was late to the party I’m sure. Every year though, they do add more and more useful features. Multi user voice recognition, home theater default audio, temp and humidity sensors, the needed, albeit archaic intercom of some sort, etc… Hoping what you seek will be there soon. Definitely good stuff.

I hope for this feature at every WWDC in the past years. It's not like Alexa has these features for ages. In my opinion it would also makes sense to have both features available.
