Do videos on the iPhone 4s take up an extra amount of memory?

First post here, but I've been browsing for a couple years now. I was curious though, does recording a video take up more memory then before? I used up almost 10 gigs of memory after recording for a little over an hour.

Yes. The 4S shoots 1080P video, the 4 shoots 720P.
