It’s been years since I owned the Series 0 (1st Gen) Apple Watch and now with the Series 5 always on I am considering buying it.

Considering work requires me to drive by at least once a week to Baltimore which is 3 hours away I can’t imagine why I would wear my watch during such a long drive. If anyone has a good reason please let me know. Otherwise I’m considering searching online if like an Apple Watch Dock for the car exists.
it’s been years since I’ve owned the Watch so there may be a real reason why wearing it during driving may be beneficial but I think I’d rather just have a fully charged watch and phone while I’m out and about.

Let’s discuss!

Nope, I have a set routine where I would charge my devices in the morning as soon as I’m up and grab them before I leave. With 30 mins of juice, the watch can last the whole day for me.

Like you mean thirty minutes of charging and you’re good for the whole day? I’m guessing you’re using it mainly as a watch and not receiving a ton of notifications and checking stuff? Really asking I’m sure gen 1 was way different than how the Watch is now.

It’s a watch. You wear it all day. That’s all there is to it.

Battery life of WATCH has significantly improved since series 0. You can currently expect 18 hours of battery life

Those three hours won’t make any difference in total battery life in your day - having to baby the product defeats the purpose of having an Apple product.

The only reason I can think of to charge in the car during a drive would be if you hadn't charged it and was on low charge. If you charged it for 30-40 min as you got up in the morning and got moving and prepared for your drive, it would easily last you until you can charge it through the night.

Just my opinion but I don't want a charging dock for my watch mounted anywhere in my vehicle. The phone mount is the only thing I need other than my radar detector mount. I could possibly see carrying a charging cable but no need for a full on dock. As others have said, you should easily be able to get through a work day without a charge even given the current battery life performance some are reporting

I would never consider doing this. My watch easily lasts me all day and I can get most of the charge back by just charging it for a short time at home (during shower, etc).

Yep I never needed to charge it either, even when I was on long road trips. Generally I always charge at night when I go to bed.

Why would you take it off? It’s a watch. Goes on in the morning, comes off at bedtime. Or charges for a bit and then goes back on to track sleep if that’s your thing.

I have no idea why anyone would take it off.

It’s not going to die in the middle of the day. On in morning, off at night. Don’t even need to use the battery complication. It just works.

Like the others, I think you'll be OK, but if you want to take no chances, just pick up a short charger cable for about $10-15 and keep it in your car. That way you'll have it if you need it. I've seen them on Amazon that had two heads: one for the iPhone and one for the watch.

I have charged mine many times while driving. I did a trip from NY to FL only stopping when my tank was empty (19 hours). Also, if I know I am going to go out after work (having it on all day, from early morning), I sometimes will charge it so I have enough juice to make it through a lite night.

But, I only charge it not he road when I need to, otherwise I use it for notification.

Sometimes I might charge for a bit on a plane if doing a 24-hour door-to-door journey with a 12-hour flight in the middle. And I can think of a couple of times I’ve charged it in the car because I forgot to do so overnight. But I agree with other posters that there is no point in making car or other daytime charging part of your normal operating procedure.

Charging while driving is actually a great idea. I noticed that my hand on the steering wheel kept turning on the screen of my AW so I will often put it in Theater Mode while driving. It’s a great change to gain % versus losing it.

I used to spend 2 hours in my car commuting each way to work. If I still did that, I would 100% charge my watch there everyday. I sleep with my watch on (sleep tracking), so this would be the only time I needed to charge the watch each day.

Right now, when I get home from work, I fully charge the watch (I wear my S0 during this time) then put it back on. My commute not is about 45-60 minutes, I never really thought about doing the car charging daily, but since this thread popped up, I just might...

I have a portable charger that I generally keep in the car, and I do sometimes charge my S4 while driving, especially on the weekends. I sleep with the Watch. I run and bike a lot. And I charge the Watch during the short periods when I have down time. During the work week, it's easy to charge it while sitting at my desk. On weekends, time spent driving is often the only time I'm not moving around.

So, yes, I do often charge my Watch while driving.
