This is a question to Safari users.

I've been using Safari and only Safari for a very long time. But recently saw few people talking about different trendy browsers such as Brave and Arc and finally decided to try one of those Chromium based browsers for a week.

So, I signed up for a 1Password account (since I have all my passwords in the iCloud Keychain) and installed the Brave browser and used it for about 1 week.
I'm not convinced enough to fully switch to Brave as my primary browser, but one major thing I noticed is that how fast Brave loads Youtube videos and how quick is jumping backward / forward by pressing left/right arrow keys. I spend a LOT of time on YouTube on daily basis and this is a major concern.

Are you happy with Safari's performance on YouTube? Have you experienced a similar slowness when using Youtube? (Of course, this is only noticeable if you use a Chromium based browser side by side). Were you able to find the root cause and any hacks to improve performance?

Thanks in advance!

Whenever i watch a video on YouTube everything is fine. When i go to open another tab and switch to that tab, The YouTube audio is till running fine. When i go back to the YouTube tab to finish watching the video, The video is almost paused and then quickly jumps to catches up with the audio. Its almost as if the video is paused but the audio is not and the video needs to catch up when switching back to that tab. Its a really quick glitch but using YouTube all day, It gets very annoying, especially when i have a fully loaded Mac Studio.

I've experienced a lot of slowdown in YouTube on Safari. Really a lot of slowdown in Safari in general.

Playing videos tends to be okay but everything about navigating the site tends to be terrible. History page slows down and often soft locks when scrolling down just a single page. I've tried it with and without several different content blockers (one at a time) with zero difference. So far the only hack I've gotten to improve performance has been to use Firefox instead.

Apple has been claiming Safari to be the fastest browser on the Mac... that hasn't been my experience for years. I'm on a 2018 i5 Intel MBP and it doesn't seem much better for my coworker on an M2 MBAir.
