Has your feelings for Apple changed in any way?

For me, my first iPhone was the iPhone 4s and it was phenomenal in every way. The Apple ecosystem was ahead of the game and it brought a new tech era into my life. At this point I knew iPhone will be one of my main choices for a phone upgrade. Here on out,

Now it’s 2025, and my feelings for “iPhone” remains the same. I still get the same euphoria as when I first saw the original iPhone. I believe every year Apple brings something to the phone industry that makes it worth its wild.

My first iPhone was the 4s as well. I still enjoy using Apple products and also enjoy teaching others about new tech. I can't say I have ever been "euphoric" about Apple much less anything else tech related. Of all things in life, soul stirring, soul kissing love is the only thing that has ever made me feel "euphoric" to my very core as a sentient being. 'Claire de Lune' comes in a strong second.

My first full purchase, pre-ordered, delivered on launch day iPhone was the iPhone 5. And I felt what you are talking about. Right up until I plugged my iPhone 5 into my 17" PowerBook G4 and opened iTunes. Then my euphoria crashed.

Because no iPhone that uses a lightning cable is compatible with any Mac using a PowerPC processor.

Any intent I had to use Apple's services hit a brick wall right then and there. There was no way to sync contacts between Entourage 2010 and my iPhone and vice-versa. So began a long era of learning to force things to my will and get what I wanted - starting with jailbreaking my iPhone and leveraging third party services.

Now, my iPhone 11 Pro Max, just like all my previous iPhones, hosts third party services while I use minimal Apple services. I exist on the iPhone without being 'trapped' in Apple's ecosystem. I am even typing this message in using a 2009 MacPro that is running Sonoma. Because OCLP allowed me to bend my Mac to my will. And I can partake of the Apple services on this Mac that I wish to use while it all syncs up with my 11 Pro Max.

All of that taught me that iDevices are tools. And I don't get all that excited over tools.

So, no. No euphoria. Now anyway.

Consumerism doesn’t evoke euphoria in me, but I am pleased with how every iPhone I purchase functions and feels

Always had a sense of excitement with each new iPhone I’ve had, first one being the 3GS.

The excitement and euphoria has waned a touch in recent years, but the iPhone Air has really brought that feeling back. My favourite device since the iPhone X I’d say.
