I placed my order on August 3 and selected store pickup. Right now, it's Preparing for Shipment.
If you mouse over for more info, I doubt Apple will give you a tracking number.

Weve received your order and will begin processing it soon! You can modify your order details once the order enters the processing status.

We are processing your order now. You can modify your order details through online Order Status, or by contacting Apple Online Store Customer Service.
Preparing for Shipment
We're preparing your item(s) to ship. At this point, your order cannot be changed or cancelled. We'll send a Pickup Notification email to you when your item(s) are ready to pick up at The Apple Store.
Shipping to Store
Your item(s) have shipped and are on their way to the Apple Store. We'll send a Pickup Notification email to you when they're ready to be picked up. Please wait for that email before coming in.
Ready for Pickup
Your item is ready at the Apple Store. When you come to the store, just remember to bring the card you used for payment, or the order number and a valid photo ID. We'll need them to confirm your pickup.
Pickup Canceled
We've canceled your item for pickup at the Apple Store. We initiate a refund immediately after a pickup item is canceled.
Picked Up
Your item has been picked up from the Apple Store.
Complete:
Weve billed you for Apple services only. You will not receive a physical item.
