Hi guys,

I was going about my business today and realized that my hands were more shaky than usual. Typically my hands tremble a bit but within my control. Today I noticed that they were acting worse than usual. I searched the net but couldn't really find anything besides PTSD, which I don't think I have! So, do you have shaky hands? And if so, why?

I believe this is a sign of Parkinson's. Didn't that come up on your search?

I'm aware that it is indeed a symptom of Parkinson's. I believe I can rule that out though because it's usually heredity and not one person in my direct or indirect family has that crippling disability.

After I workout they're really shaky for a few hours. I find that my left hand shakes a lot but it runs in the family. I'm not worried

Or you had regular coffee instead of decaf. There's no need to jump straight to a degenerative disorder.

Other causes for shaky hands are (at least for me): extended periods without eating, sugar crash, being nervous/anxious or headaches. Usually a light meal and a little rest and I'm good to go.

Benign Familial Tremor or Essential Tremor

usually worse in dominant hand, made worse with stimulants like caffeine, adrenaline (released when you go hypoglycemic). Had it all my life. I can remember having to brace my fingers down to the last digit for fine model painting as a kid.

It's a sign of cannibalism, supposedly (yeah, I just watched The Book of Eli a few days ago).

I get shaky hands if I drink too much coffee in the morning.

I generally have the hands of a surgeon, extremely steady. I do, however, get some really shaky fingers when hungover.

1969... 10th grade history class... Mr Walsh... I stayed after school for some infraction... I notice that his hand was shaking as he was writing something. I mean really shaking... he was about 35 years old... I told him he should have it looked at. He told me it was an old Korean War injury, and then kicked me out.

About 5 year later he died from muscular dystrophy.

Hope you just drank too much coffee...

I have shaky hands naturally, but they are really bad should by blood sugar become low (I have diabetes).
