Hey MR, hopefully this isn't too stupid of a question, i just want to confirm.

My friend coming with me to buy his iPhone Thursday morning was just curious- do you have to be a certain age limit to buy an iPhone at AT&T? I know that you have to be 18 to legally make changes to an AT&T account, but what about just buying a phone? He has his license and what not obviously, so does he need a parent to buy it or can he buy it himself?

Thanks!

You would think that an underage person can buy the phone at the full price of $600 or so.

You must be either THE ATT account holder, or WITH the ATT account holder.

So yes, you must be over 18 or WITH someone over 18.

Yeah, unfortunately. I was 16 when I bought my 3GS outright so I was allowed to, but for upgrades/new lines you have to be at least 18 and be either the account holder or on the list of authorized users.

You can only buy it for the full price w/o a contract if your under 18, that is if they will even sell them w/o contracts. I know some apple stores wont.

if it means anything, and im sure ill catch flack about this, but call where you want to get the phone. some apple stores dont care quite frankly. I bought my 3g by myself at 16, and when i called the apple store I will be going to and asked two different "customer service" people and both stated it is not a problem to buy at 17 alone as long as i'm an authorized user. i copied down both their names for evidence if I get resistance while I'm there. It's a gamble, but im hoping they will just look at my ID and not question it, or the two people I spoke to were right and that store doesnt care. take it for what you want.
