I'm jailbreaking (and unlocking) my friend's iPhone 3G. I have done my research and his baseband is unlockable. I will be using Redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.1.
Now the question is that would i have to be connected to the internet in order to do a jailbreak?
I know that i have to be connected if I want to update Cydia and get ultraSn0w but I'm focused on only the jailbreaking part
Also, RedSn0w is already on my laptop

In order to do the actual jailbreak, no you do not have to be connected to the internet. In order to update Cydia, you will need internet.

Sometime you do, it all depend on the Jailbreaking tool. Current tool for the current firmware 4.2.1 does not required an internet connection while Jailbreaking.
