Do you have to bring your iPhone 4 into the AT&T store to get activated?

I went to the AT&T store today to pre-order my iPhone (which I did) and the store rep told me I had to bring it into the store to have it activated.
Is this true, has anyone else been told this?

man I wish ATT would train their employees and if not just don't allow them to answer questions.

When you recieve the phone you plug it into itunes and away you go....

Thats what I thought, but the store rep told me that I had to get it activated in the store so I got it shipped to the store instead of my house. Damn!!!!
