I've been wanting to start my own diary for a while, and I was wondering how many keep one and what are your opinions in keeping one.

I have in the past, but I am not currently journaling

I think it is an excellent way to focus and organize your thoughts

Just remember, if you write it down, it has the potential to be read by the world someday, regardless of encryption

No, grade school pretty much ruined that idea. We had to write in it everyday for 30 minutes, I would just put my name over and over again.

Did I mention that I didn't think they were going to grade them?

I had a LiveJournal account from 2002-2003, but that's the extent of it. The only reason why I kept it was because that was back when I was in a band touring the country. I actually had lots of cool things to write about then. :D

I keep a food journal. I also use it to write down little details about my day and how I'm feeling so that I can track what triggers my emotional eating/bad eating habits. It's mostly a weight control tool as opposed to some kind of mental outlet, but it is a journal nonetheless.

I've kept a journal kinda on-and-off for the past twenty years. I rediscovered a bunch of entries (on Hypercard, if you can believe that) a few years back and reintegrated them into my current format. There was a lot of stuff that I had almost forgotten about.

It is harder to be regular about keeping the journal these days, being married, having kids and a job. But I manage to put some thought down every now and again.

I keep a dream journal. I don't write in it as frequently as I should though.

I also log my instant messenger conversations, which is kind of like a journal.

Also my filesystem is journaled.:D
