I own an ACOM DATA external 120GB USB 2.0/Firewire hard drive. It has been extremely durable -- my biggest complaint is kernel panics, they happen about once every month or 2 when plugging in/unplugging the hard drive.

I back up about once every 2 to 3 days on average and use the SuperDuper! shareware application. It is hard to believe that SuperDuper! lets you do what you can do for free and unlimitedly.

I do a backup at least once a month, or before a major set of updates. I have a registered copy with superduper so i simply use smart update to mimic my powerbooks 60GB hard-drive. This is mimicked onto a partition on the Lacie D2, which leaves me with a 100GB partition to supplement. Of course, stuff on that partition doesn't get backed up...relentless. :(

Yep, 20gig ipod, & 250gb externall hdd..

time machine will rock for me when Leopard comes out

I'm in the same boat. :( I have three patricians and alternate back and forth between two of them for every other back up. The third one has a professional music video iMovie file on it that I made which is about 30GB. I don't want to lose it but I can't store it on my always overfilling 40GB iBook hard drive.

Lacie Triple Interface 250GB. I backup using the .mac service, will likely also look into Superduper to make a clone of the entire drive. I've heard of people having difficulties retrieving data from the Backup3 program. It's also the main repository of my digital photos and music, since my PB drive is getting full. It works great with iMovie as well.

3 external firewire HDs > 1 of them (120GB) used to back-up project/picture files.
1 internal SATA HD (80GB) used to back-up my music library.

I have a 250GB Lacie external HD, and I don't use it for backing up yet. I just use it for my iTunes folder, and movies etc:)

I have a couple of external drives.

The one I use for backup is a 200 GB LaCie Porsche drive I got very cheap.

I voted that I take weekly backups, but I backup at very irregular intervals, depending on what I do, so I just guesstimated this to average out to about once a week... ;)

Are we going to get lots of these polls today...?

Yes, a 1TB Lacie for images and a OWC for daily backups - I have to back up every day, have it set to run at midnight and then sleep.

i have two externals.

i need to work on the backup configuration. and buy SuperDuper! for that matter too.

yep a 250gig mybook and a 320gig generic enclosure with a Pata 7200.10 Seagate. both are for backs. i alternate between the two. one today one tomorrow. that way i will only ever be 1 day behind if one fails. :p

Yep, I have several between home and work.

Lacie 200GB Porsche HDD at home, with which I have had problems with the power cable.
Old WD 400GB USB HDD - used as a go between for work and home. Travelled many, many miles, and never let me down.
WD Mybook 250GB HDD at work, which is only a week old - so far so good.
A 300GB SATA HD at work which I placed in an external enclosure with a Firewire connection. Works pretty well so far, although the enclosure wasn't the best made thing in the world.
2 x 1TB MEDEA SCSI drives at work - for backing up loads of video footage. 1 is very stable, the other less so, and seems like its on its way to that big Hard Drive Heaven in the sky.

Had a 200GB I backed my music up to as well as my files, but now I'm setting up a Powermac G4 (if I ever get my PSU RMA'd) with a RAID 5 array to store all that information and protect it simultaneously.

250MB lacie + super duper!

i back up before every software update and whenever i have important data or new pictures. so it averages about every week. in addition i burn my picture- and itunes libraries once in a while onto DVDs.

i don't get it that people still don't back up at all. external HD's are not that expensive anymore.

I have 3 external drives

1. 300gb for Media (Movies and TV shows)
2. 400gb for iTunes (Podcasts and itunes content)
3. 200gb for Installation files, bootable system, and backups.\

All linked on FireWire :-D

I don't own a dedicated external hard drive, but my superseded 2G 20GB firewire iPod has been redeployed as a backup device. All important stuff gets transferred on to this at regulard intervals.

I pointed this thread out to my friend Jimmy (user SuperComp here on the forums - we're sitting here in English class....), and he goes "I bet iGary backs up daily." Low and behold... Just thought it was kind funny. :D

I own a 250GB MyBook FW drive. I usually back up every week or so. Or whenever I feel I need something saved.

I have a 160GB mirrored external drive from OTC that gets all of the important files that I have (pictures & music).

Everything on my main drive doesn't matter if its toast.

i have an external... but i dont back up any of my files...

i just use it as another storage...
