I was wondering if the 4th gen iPod touch has a lower minimum brightness than the 3rd gen iPod, since the screen has changed.

Could someone with both devices test this in the dark, using the same image (for example a white picture) to accurately compare?

Bonus points if you post a comparison photo :)

Thanks!

Yes, both iPhone 4 and 4G iPod touch has lower brightness at the default level. (I have 3GS and used to own iPod Touch 3G).

Yes, the brightness level is considerably less on the 4 gen than the third gen set at mid-level like the above poster stated.

Thanks, but I was wondering if the minimum brightness was any lower. That's why I put minimum in bold in my first post.

I've heard the iPhone 4 has a lower minimum brightness than the 3GS. I am hoping that similarly, the iPod Touch 4G can go dimmer than the 3G.

I'm curious because I use my iPod a lot at night and if the display is too bright it hurts my eyes.

When i get my 4g touch-- I'll post a pic to compare.

Thanks!

Make sure y'all are turning OFF Auto-Brightness when you do this, otherwise your tests are going to be saddled with an additional variable.

(Maybe the IPt4 ambient light sensor is more or less sensitive than than IPt3.)

EDIT: If the test is at the absolute MINIMUM level, per the OP's wishes, then in theory Auto-Brightness should make no difference. I stand corrected.

I've found that the ambient sensor on the iPod touch 4G is much more 'sensitive' than the sensor on the iPod touch 3G. The screen on the 4G is much dimmer with the sensor enabled.

So I just do manual backlight control. It's like three finger touches.

This isn't an issue though, as I've never found the light sensor useful nor accurate.
