Hi so I have a choice kindle or Iphone XR to read books.

Does anyone read books in Iphone XR? Is it a better experience than the Kindle Paperwhite? Please advise. Thanks!

I'm with @cdcastillo.

Choose the device that is designed and meant for the thing you're doing. I've never used an XR, but I have viewed books on a 6s+ (briefly) and it's just not the same experience as using an iPad. A Kindle is roughly the same size and it's designed to make book reading a pleasant experience.

I read on my iPhone XS, my iPad and my ThinkPad using the Kindle app (and sometimes even on my Kindle). Seamless switching from one device to another.

No, it is not. Nothing beats the kindle to read books (except, maybe, actual books).

Agree completely.

Exactly.

Real books for preference, but colleagues swear by Kindles; personally, I would never read a book on an iPhone.

I have a Plus iPhone and a while back I downloaded a free book to see what reading a book was like on a big iPhone.
Compared to a paperback, it sucks. You can do it certainly, but for me it's not a nice experience.
On a XR it would suck even more because of smaller screen & lower resolution.

I also have tried reading a book on a Kindle several times. In all instances, my impression was it sucked compared to a paperback also.

So which was the worst experience (in my opinion) of the two evils? Kindle or iPhone Plus? Kindle.

At least with an iPhone you can instantly jump into doing something else like go to a website or watch a YouTube vid or check email etc when you grow weary of reading endless text on a screen. Where with the Kindle, all you can really do is read a book.
I know many people are fans of the kindle, but I'm certainly not one of them.

Yeah, I've only done it once or twice to verify that the books I put there are indeed there. I have a different intent for the type of books I have in there though. Generally, if I do read on a device, I'll do it on my iPad.

iDevices are great, but I'm just not a fan of using small screens for media (video, games, books, etc) consumption. I've got larger screens for that.

But the Kindle is purpose-designed for e-reading so in my opinion trumps the XR for that specific thing.

In my old job I used to handle setting up the WiFi for the editor (I worked for a newspaper) on her Kindle. She used her Kindle for web browsing as well as books so there is also that option.

But I believe OP is asking because the intent is specifically just to read a book.

I agree that a Kindle will make reading a book a better experience. However, I use my iPhone 6S Plus to read books all of the time. I love using the continuous scrolling feature. I think it's a great experience. Of course there's control over text size and background color as well.

I tend to enjoy the convenience of reading on my iPhone vs. having to carry a book around. I also tended to lose my place with a book, but doesn't happen with my iPhone.

To add to the unanimous opinion, I would never read on my phone. Physical books first, but if I get a digital book, I prefer my iPad.

I have the XS and read on it all the time - aside when my iPad mini 5 is not nearby - both mainly using the Kindle app. Had a Nook and a Kindle but switched to the iPad and then the iPad mini because it did more things (at the time) then either of them did.
Have not read a "real book" in many years and really don't miss it.
