For those who say torrents are bad are idiots. I never use torrents to download anything illegal, I mostly use them to download large Linux distributions.

I think the OP is referring to seeding once you've finished downloading. Most people just remove the torrent from the list to regain bandwidth (I know I do ).

Yeah, I think the largest ratio I've had on a torrent was like 40:1.

i seed to a ratio of 1:1 if its a popular torrent and other people are waiting for bandwidth but if theres no other leechers and just a few seeders ill leech. when im downloading from a small community i always try to seed > 1:1.

BitTorrent can be used for legal downloads to assist in the aid of bandwidth and some diehard users just dowload everything via BitTorrent. for example podcasts from Revision3 can be downloaded as torrents.



in this situation you dont need to seed as the Revision3 servers probably already have many peers seeding. its depends on the community.

If it's a private site then I definitely seed at least 5:1 to boost my ratio. However, if it is a random torrent search engine where I got the torrent from, then I don't seed more than 1:1 if that.

I currently have 409 torrents seeding in Vuze. the ratios range from 0 (no peers), to 61.3:1. My "career" seed ratio, in 1 year, 321 days of Azureus/Vuze runtime, is 6.809 (1.007TiB down, 6.857TiB up).

I also have 15 torrents downloading right now, but they're all dead. Stupid backup software eased the wrong drive.

I usually seed to a ratio of 4:1. I just let me computer on all day and let it go about its business. I figure i might as well do what i can.

I used to not, then I got my Popcorn Hour and since I don't need a computer on for it to work I just let it seed away

I am one of those people as well. My bandwidth is too valuable to me.

It's good karma to seed anything you download to at least 1:1. I mostly seed to 105% of the download size, then it stops automatically (uTorrent).
