Currently, the arrow keys are not in an inverted-T layout like those on post-Touch Bar MacBook notebooks; it still uses the full-height arrow keys. Also, the newer Mac notebooks have updated the mute key to show the actual mute icon.

Agree with @hg.wells, the USB-C models were introduced last October and that was just to satisfy European regulations. The last substantial change was Touch ID in 2021.

Personally I don't care about arrow keys, but I would like to see backlighting.

I completely forgot about backlighting. I’d like that on the Magic Keyboard. Basically, Apple should make the Magic Keyboard identical to the Mac notebook keyboard.

They are just not going to refresh it every time there is a slight change. You mentioned mute button, the current keyboards have a dedicated mute button.

I think there was a story on here in the second half of last year that they are working on redesigned peripherals?

But there's not been anything concrete about them so who knows when we'll see the finished products.

Well.... the COMPACT keyboard is pretty similar already.

When you refer to the "Inverted-T" arrow key layout, that's on the keyboard with numeric keypad. For that layout, the "inverted-T" makes more sense IMO.

There are other changes with that layout vs. laptop keyboards, and they also (to me) make sense. Relocating Fn/Globe key, 2nd Control key for example.

But if you're referring to the COMPACT keyboard - the layout is already pretty similar, I think? I don't have one handy but the photos look similar.
