I would love if Amazon and Roku implements the touchpad feature like on the new Apple TV remotes. I'm really not a voice control type of person, but being able to scroll and input with touch would be nice. We can basically do this with mobile apps, but I want this on the remote and don't plan on getting an Apple TV.

I don't see the real benefit over the previous model. The biggest problem with the old remote is the difficultly entering text/numbers and the small touchpad doesn't solve that problem. If anything, the new remote will probably be easier to break considering it has a glass touchpad. If it's anything like using your iPhone, the navigation gestures can be finicky as hell.
You might be right about that.
But the mobile apps touch input is pretty smooth with Amazon, so I don't see how the actual remote will be finicky.
Will have to wait to see the Apple TV reviews.
