I like the design of the Ultra, but I dont have the real estate on my wrist for such a big watch :)

Would be nice if the Series 9 will get an updated design, perhaps flat screeen from the Ultra? What do you guys think?

I believe it will have a redesign, although perhaps not as aggressive as the Ultra. In the end the Apple Watch has an iconic design and I don't think they will change it too much. Perhaps the sides (but not the screen), make it slightly more "boxy", not being as curved as now.

I think it would be nice if they added the third button of the Ultra, because I find it quite practical.

It wouldn't be bad if next year they brought out a 47mm Ultra, since many of us find the 49mm one a bit too big for our wrists.

In my case, I have mixed feelings about the Ultra, because I like it, but it's not as elegant as the regular one (in its stainless steel finish). But looking at the pictures uploaded by Ultra users here, with more "elegant" straps, I don't dislike it and it looks good for those of us who have to wear a suit or formal clothes to the office, for example.

I'll see next year if the Series 9 has improvements in design and specifications, if not, I'll probably end up going for an Ultra, since in Europe the difference between the stainless steel with a leather or milanese strap and the Ultra, is only 50 euros.

I certainly want the battery life of the ultra but I don't really like the bulge on the side of the watch

Not really no.

Its a very different design. I think they keep that same look they've been going with. I highly doubt they go with a flat screen, or more squared edges or anything similar to a flatter, smaller ultra.

No way the S9 gets battery life like the Ultra. The ultra is literally 2x the size. That has to go somewhere in the watch. For the S9 to stay the same size and gain 2x the battery life...no way that will happen. If that was the case the ultra would be 2x the battery life it is now. They aren't going to make that kind of a technology jump by the S9. I hope they do because then I'll get the AWU2.0 just for the week long battery life!

My guess is the S9 and AWU2, are just some minor updates to battery life maybe, no major chip upgrades and hopefully some major software overhauls to take advantage of battery life and adventure oriented function.

Batteries are always improving so I don't think it impossible to keep the 45 size and have improved battery life in a year or so.

Be careful counting on the next design always being better in every way, especially aesthetically, which is very subjective.
Look at those counting on an M1 27" iMac (which got discontinued instead), or the iPad Mini 6 (which got jelly scrolling), or the iPhone 14 Pro (which got giant camera bumps). I can give other examples for different products, like cars.
If you like the current offerings, get it, don't assume you will prefer the next version better. This is part of the reason I got an S8, and part of the reason I got the last of the 27" iMacs.

To be fair, they discontinued the Intel version of the 27" iMac. They just haven't announced the Apple Silicon version, but it is coming, whether that's next month or next Spring.
