I personally think it could go from $1299 base to like $1399 or maybe even $1499

thoughts?

Well, my thoughts are: if the MacBook Air dropped from $1099 to $999 with 256GB BASE storage and a faster RAM. Will the 14" MacBook increase base storage from 128gb to 256gb? Which would make the 14" 512GB $1,499?

I have the 2017 MacBook Pro 256GB and frankly, I like it; however, I'm also thinking if I could get the MacBook Air 2020 with i5, 16GB ram and 512gb what do I exactly lose coming from a 2017 MBP?

Would I regret this? We may never know.

Apple’s latest updates have doubled its base storage so I’m hoping the new 13/14” MBP will start with 256GB, which will make the 512GB upgrade more affordable.

Biggest unknown is whether they continue on with 2 models, or merge them back into 1. I am of the mind it makes sense to merge them back into a single 14" model, based on the current high end 13" (2 fans, 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports, 28W CPU) but it's still possible they will come out with a minimal magic KB refresh of the $1,299 model and only apply the more substantial 14" changes to the $1,799 model.

There was no price increase. It was $2,399 for the base 15” MBP and it stayed at $2,399 for the 16” model.

Thread over :)

I know there's been an increase on BTO config items, but their standard pricing on laptops has stayed the same, or got cheaper, while doubling the storage.

So I think everyone can relax.

The doubling of storage for the same price point is an effective discount, but feels like a forced upgrade for someone who would have rather seen it in the form of a reduction in price with same/more storage.

Given the bevy of improvements that increase it’s value proposition, and for a host of other business reasons I’m sure, the MBP’s MSRP wasn’t going to drop. And the optics of increasing the price would have been too bad given the keyboard/thermal fixes. IMO.

TL;DR Apple did well in positioning the 16”, 14” should follow suit with similar pricing and increased value.

I'm confused by what you mean by price increase.. However I expect it to have 512G storage

Since the base Air starts with 256, I cannot imagine Apple would start their base MBP at less than this.

RAM will probably also start at the same level. So we could get an extra inch of screen, better thermals, and slightly better cpu at the starting price (assuming it to be $1299). The sweet spot might be around $1499 for most with upgrades.

There’s two entry points for the 13” MBP though. The $1,299 model has 2 ports and the $1,799 has 4. I wonder if the 2 port version will remain after the next update.
