iPhone Flip (Clamshell Style)

-Compact and pocket-friendly
-Flips open into a regular iPhone size
-Similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Flip

iPhone Fold (Book Style)
-Larger screen that unfolds like a tablet
-Great for multitasking, gaming, and media
-Similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold

I’m all for a flip style instead of a foldable. Flip phones fold down into a very compact, pocket-friendly square, making them easier to carry. I already have an iPad Mini for a tablet. Give me a phone that’s thin like the Air but half the size of a Mini that flips into a Pro Max.

For someone who carries both iPhone and iPad daily, Fold would allow them to consolidate into one device.

I'm interested but I reckon it will be way too pricey for my liking.

There's very limited utility with a long rectangle. The current foldable leaders have shown a book style form factor is best.

Fold - I don't see the purpose of a flip, though of course if Apple wants to make both then that's fine. But if I have to choose then my vote is going towards the fold.

I purchased a secondhand Google Pixel Fold to properly try the implementation...

The book-style foldable is a good first step in the innovation. And companies such as Samsung have made fair, even commendable, progress in refining the concept. But the design is several steps from the goal, a device that really is smartphone and tablet, a ‘true phablet’, if you will.

This is the next step:

Of course, as stated in the video, there are further refinements to complete, including price, but overall looking like good progress.

Anyway… This tri-fold, triple fold, dual fold, two-fold, brochure-style, what-have-you design is actually smartphone and tablet display sizes. Its small and largest display configurations are similar to iPhone Pro — I’d prefer iPhone X size when fully folded — and iPad Pro (10.5-inch). The single, book-style fold is more like iPhone Pro or Pro Max and not even iPad mini. Twice the display real estate sounds nice, although, most tablets have 3-4x the display area than a smartphone.

Will err is Apple planning to jump directly into the brochure-style design?
🤷‍♂️
(Probably not)

P.S. To me, the modern day flip design is an inspiration of smartphone and hands-free selfie camera. Of course, one can’t blame companies like Samsung for developing such a design, product as there’s a large audience for that combination.
