Hi,

I saw there were other threads but couldn’t find a good answer to my question- I’m on a S4 and have a growing interest in always on and the bigger screen- but am wondering if it’s not the better move to get a used s7 than the 8 which has zero useful improvements for me as a male right now. The only reason for me to get the 8 would be if there was a firm reason to believe they’ll let us do anything else with that temperature sensor in the future- but I sort of am in doubt that it’ll happen, at least not in the next two years…? Which is probably the time by wich I would update again. If I buy a 7SS for 550€ now.. I feel like they would’ve teased or advertisers any other features of they were able to bring anything else to the table, but probably they’re just not allowed to by the FDA or the sensor ain’t capable enough?

IMHO never buy on speculation / vapor ware, buy only based on extant features and capabilities and whether they're of actual real world use to you today.

I would also imagine that even if something were to be approved by the FDA there would be further needed approvals (delays) for anywhere that pricing is in €

Were I in your shoes I'd just buy the S7 - refurbished or on the used market, depending on price/details, and see what comes with an S9 or S10. Or wait a while for S8 refurbs to become available in a few months. I have an S6 and really like the AOD. Well worth the upgrade from an S4 IMHO.

I moved from S4 to S7 recently and love the always on display - I would give the temp sensor a couple of generations to see how it develops and get a used or discounted 7 right now

Would be great if it popped up a message that you’re coming down with an illness as your temp is rising over time.

The 8 just felt like an S year. There's no point to getting one if you already have a 5 or newer imo. Coming from your 4, I'd just get a 5 or 7. The 6 will just be a 7 with a worse screen, not worth buying when the 7 exists haha. 5 will be pretty much your current watch but with AOD, and will also be the cheapest option at about $150 or less if you're patient.

Bottom line: your wrist is not a good place to get a core body temperature. Can't even do any sort of temperature baselining while you're awake - only while you're sleeping, which tells you how fussy it is. They have more of a chance of getting an AirPod to take accurate temperatures IMO.
