Hey all,

I bought a HomePod yesterday for my apartment, as my bluetooth speaker died. I was initially concerned about reports of the bass being too heavy, although many people claim that was fixed in 11.3.

When I first turned the HomePod on, it was on 11.2.5, and HOLY BALLS that bass was loud. I updated to 11.4, hoping that it would fix it. While the bass was noticeably quieter, it's still overpowering.

I want nothing more than to buy 3 more of these, but my apartment walls (and floors) are very thin, so it's just not feasible at this point.

Do you think HomePod will ever get it's own system-wide EQ?

Maybe this is deliberate?

I have notice that a lot of people, especially younger people, think that loud bass means high quality speakers/sound.

I am surprised that it doesn't. It does not have a simple treble/bass setting??

How does it sound for spoken words, like talk radio or an audio book? Is it adjusted automatically?

Are you using the HomePod Siri with Apple Music? Would changing the EQ in the Music App under settings not change it? I use that all the time in my car, not sure if it would adjust the music for the HomePod or not.

100% agree with you. I just bought mine too, but tbh I’m thinking of returning it for the exact same reason.

The bass sounds great, but I can hear it through my whole apartment.

Btw, can you do me a favor and try a phone call on your HomePod? Handoff works, but I’m unable to adjust the volume using my iPhone volume keys.

Volume adjust works for music, but not phone calls.

Nope. No bass or treble setting. It sounds great for spoken words, but still very boomy.

So if you AirPlay from Apple Music on iOS, it'll respect your EQ settings. (Although, even with Bass Reducer, it's ridiculously bassy.) But with Siri on (let's call it) audioOS, it uses the standard HomePod EQ.

Interesting! I'm at work right now, but I can try it when I get home.
