I usually roll up a microfiber cloth and place it under my 15" MacBook Pro 2019 base model.

It feels a little better when typing and browsing.

Are there better of ways making using a laptop more ergonomic?

I use an Amazon gaming mousepad (oversized) for the base of my MBP 13 - makes typing on it a little nicer. However, I have an AmazonBasics laptop stand that my MBP spends most of its time on. I put the Magic Keyboard 2 on the large gaming mousepad for a better typing experience (absorbs impacts more).

I find the Amazon laptop stand helps a lot when reading for long periods of time because it makes the laptop more eye level.

To answer your question, flat on my desk when typing and browsing when not using the laptop stand.

What do you mean by tilting?
