I've always used the trackpad on the right but I saw a video that had it on the left and I'm wondering if a lot of people do it that way. I'm giving some thought as to putting it on the left. I realize that it means learning to left-hand point but it would remove the mental question of mouse or trackpad and it would give me more room to move the mouse.

I am left-handed, however, I always used mice the "right" way, which always felt counter-intuitive to me. Trackpads are a blessing because they feel much more natural to me as I can use them with my left hand.
So for me: Trackpad on the left, keyboard on the right, no mouse

I am also left-handed and I also use the mouse with my right hand (which is great, because most of the mice I like are right-handed). I can use the trackpad with both hands, but here's the cool part: I also use Wacom tablets or the Apple Pencil on my iPad, and I use them with my left hand, while my right hand is free to use the mouse. :)

Wow, you guys are ambidextrous! I’m a lefty, but mouse with my right hand and also use the trackpad with my right hand. I also throw with my right hand, and when I played baseball batted right handed. And kick with my right foot.

but write with my left hand, and hold tennis rackets with my left hand.

I’m confused.

Well, you seem to be ambidextrous, too! At least when it comes to mice and trackpads :)

I'm a lefty and mice and mobile trackpads (as opposed to fixed pads on notebooks) are ALWAYS on the correct side, the left. I also use drawing tablets with my left hand.

For what it's worth, I wonder if many of the videos / photos you see online with trackpad left-of-keyboard is because they use a mouse right-of-keyboard most of the time? I know a lot of YouTubers keep the Trackpad to the left basically 100% to swap between desktops via mission control, or for the occasion they want to use the multi-touch gestures. But otherwise, use a mouse the majority of the time?

I recently started to do the same thing, and it's pretty great to be able to toggle separate desktops / window configurations for work vs personal.

I have four 27 inch monitors on my desktop and the trackpad is a lot faster to get from screen to screen than the mouse.

my trackpad is on the right hand side, I am right handed, but occasionally on my iMac and more often on my MBA I use the trackpad with my left hand ... does it really matter? whichever location is more comfortable I would say

It's kind of the idea that you can have your hand on both and use the thing that makes the most sense at the moment.

This, especially if they are “creative” so they use the trackpad to zoom in, etc while using the mouse for more precision movements.

When using my trackpad its always on the left, as i am left handed. Strangely enough, if i am using a mouse, i use my right hand.

Actually, I do EVERYTHING with my left hand except using a mouse. When I was a kid there weren't any left-handed mice available. I was just taught to cope and somehow got used to it. It always felt unnatural to me, though. However, I haven't used a mouse for at least 10 years... Trackpads all the way!
