I've had two of these in less than 24 hours on this new machine. I was able to work in Photoshop and Aperture fine, but the minute I started watching Hulu videos I started getting these... oddly enough.

I zapped PRAM and repaired permissions, and haven't had another one yet... but should I just take it back now while I'm still in my 14 days?

Here is the log:

I would not be happy with that on a new machine. At least call Apple so they have a report on file of the problem. Incase something goes wrong later on. You're still under warranty for a year even without AppleCare.

What is your setup like? Ram config? Peripherals connected? etc...

No 3rd party RAM - stock 2.66 Nehalem Quad w/3gb

I had it exchanged. I found another person online that had an almost identical panic and said the logic board died shortly thereafter. I wasn't really in the mood to put up with that on a new machine so I just went back to the Apple store.

good move.

same here

I got almost same panic on my Mac Pro(single quad-core 2.66GHz, 3GRAM) as following.

Now I 'm getting following annoying system log message from kernel on and on.

kernel AppleTyMCEDriver ReadCorrectable : Detected 1
errors on channel 2 dimm 0 package 0

kernel AppleTyMCEDriver ReadCorrectable : Detected 1
errors on channel 2 dimm 0 package 0

Appears to be a memory related error - could be bad memory, bad riser or logic board.

Try to re seat you dimm and riser and if that doesn't work try a different stick if available.

Ouch.

As DJJ states, this is a RAM issue. It could be the CPU daugthercard (which the RAM sits on), but I doubt it. Your kernel panic log specifically says:

Memory Operation: read
Machine-specific error: Read ECC
COR_ERR_CNT: 16436
Status bits:
Processor context corrupt
ADDR register valid
MISC register valid
Error enabled
Uncorrected error
Error overflow
IA32_MC8_ADDR(0x422): 0x0000000132f17900
IA32_MC8_MISC(0x423): 0xe735197000081085
DIMM: 0
Channel: 2

Which basically means that an error was detected on the RAM, but the system was unable to recover because the ECC functionality on that DIMM is shot.

I would try removing the first DIMM on the CPU daughercard and moving all the others up to populate the now empty space (ie, move the RAM from slot 3 to 2 and 2 to 1). As per the above kernel panic, something is direly wrong with the DIMM in slot 0, which is the slot **closest** to the edge of the **front** of the CPU card.

If the panics and errors in your system log go away after removing the offended error, you should talk to Apple and see about getting that stick replaced (and not the entire machine, if the rest of it is indeed working). I don't think there's any reason to have to bring the /entire/ machine in to them, unless of course the panics and ECC crashes continue after you've removed the DIMM in slot 1 (otherwise known as DIMM0). If that happens, there might be an issue with the entire riser card itself.

Another Mac Pro Kernel Panic...Grrrrr

Hello all. I have spent some time here reading all this and can not believe a Mac could be so troubled. But the reason I am here is that my mac is troubled with this also,,
Mac Pro 3.0 dual (four processors total)
8 gigs of ram
3x 500 gig Sata drives (2 in array) and one system
1900 graphics card

This machine was working fine then I shipped it to a friend and this!!! Anyone seen this before??
