Doc not responsive after "sleep"

First post here :)
ok, so I'm on latest version of Mavericks 10.9.5, late 2013 MBP 15" 16G i7.

I noticed in the last few months, when i wake up the laptop the doc is frozen (sometimes) for like 10-15 seconds.
seems everything else is just fine (desktop or the upper bar).
Any idea what this can be, or how to debug ?
