Dock crashes almost on every start up after 10.5.1 update

Ive noticed that since I've updated to 5.1, my doc seems to crash almost upon every start up, with it usually taking about 15 to 25 seconds to appear on the desktop. When this happens, the desktop picture changes(somtimes multipple times), being that I have it to change on random on every log in. I thought that the random desktop picture was causing the crash, but once I disabled the option, the problem still happens. I use the 2d dock, but it happens when using the 3d also. Anybody have any suggestions?

By the way, I have about 40 permission errors listed in disk utility that seem to never go away, maybe that has something to do with it?

Try deleting the Dock's preference file, it might help.

How would I go about doing that, Im still rather new to OS X. . I tried removing the overlay icons from the stacks, and the dock seemed to back again normal after I restarted, but that might have been a fluke.
