15.4, multiple Macs. Simple problem, simple resolution in theory (log out), but pretty annoying. It happens after I've left the Macs unattended for a while and it's gone into that sleep state that it takes a bit of time to wake up from.

While it wasn't a thing before about the last couple of weeks, these days when the Macs wake up from that, I can guarantee the dock has disappeared. I am running BetterDisplay, Magnet and Display Maid as display / window management tools - this is part of the standard loadout I have for all Macs I sit in front of. I have auto-hide off.

you've rebooted? try disabling those apps, then re-introducing them one-at-a time.

if the problem is happening on multiple macs, it's something you're running in common. anyway, a place to start...

I'd say it's a 15.4 compatibility issue and I'm putting the finger on Apple for this one since I've had the same loadout since January. So the question is not to remove the apps that I actually need since Apple's window management is unusable (unless they've fixed that, and the evidence isn't there), but to figure out what Apple has done wrong and how I can circumvent it. I have tried it with Betterdisplay off since I figured it might be a screen scaling problem, but it doesn't help.

You may be correct but if you don't disable all the third-party apps and test you can't pinpoint 15.4 alone as the issue.

There must be enough people running 15.4 without those apps who can share their experience.

I've heard about various issues and I'm probably going to wait for another update and reviews of it. I looked at the 15.4 release notes and I don't think I'm missing anything by waiting.

i use better display (but not your other 2 apps) without issue. either way, this is not a widely-reported issue in 15.4, so it would benefit you to try disabling those things (not removing them), adding them back one-at-a-time (with a reboot) and seeing if you can find where the conflict is. also look at other apps running on all your macs.

it's worth trying something....

It's happened to me a couple of times on startup. I restart gets it back🤔

Same. I go into System Settings – Desktop & Dock and toggle “Automatically hide and show the Dock” on and off again.

Do you have Hot corners set for Start screen saver or display sleep?

No hot corners. For now I've set the Mac to basically use max energy and never sleep.
