I want to get a dock extension cable (ie 30-pin male to 30-pin female) so that i can use my iPod in the car without the rather chunky charging adaptor (which keeps wobbling loose).

I've seen a number of options for such cables, and after much reading around bought one which promised to include compatibility with audio, video, controlling the iPod, etc. And it does... for *some* accessories, but my car adapter just won't recognise the iPod if i use that cable.

Anyway, i had a close look and noticed that there are only 4 pins connected in the male plug (ie the one which plugs into the iPod - you can see the shiny pins if you look closely).

So, before i go buying another, could anyone else who's got one of these cables please have a look and let me know how many pins you can see in your cable, and where you got it from / what brand it is.

The only one i can think must work would be the newer CableJive DockXtender (though they also have an older, cheaper version which the spell differently which i'm not sure will work), but the cheapest i can get that in the UK is £30 by the time i include delivery - which seems like a lot for a simple cable!

If anyone does have any of these cables and can tell me how many pins it's got, or if you've found one that will work with every accessory, i'd really appreciate it.

Cheers,

David
