ny somewhere
anyone else using it? (or am i the only one... ).

i NEVER use the dock, i keep it locked away (am on a 13" macbook pro).
i've used Dock Gone for YEARS, and...would like to keep using it.

dockgone

if anyone's using it, let me know if it works in 10.9. or if someone could try it for me...(am running 10.8.4).

thanx!

the one nice thing about dock gone...with a simple key command, i can access the dock...which i do occasionally if i need to check what's in the trash...or move something out of it.

am hoping 'dock gone' will work in 10.9, but at least this is an alternative.
i LOVE OS X, but have always (12" powerbook, now 13" macbook pro) hated the dock...

thanx again!

Why is there a hate for the dock?

How else do you navigate around and open your apps quickly, without it?

Maybe am missing the point, which is completely possible.

I feel the same way... I guess if your keyboard-fu is very strong, you can just launch apps via Spotlight or Alfred or similar apps. Or maybe people put shortcuts on their desktops in massive numbers, a la classic Windows.

I like the dock. It's one of the things that first intrigued me about Macs, and made me switch to Linux (lots of great free dock apps there) before I could afford to switch.

I detest icons and files/folders on my desktop. Hence why I love the dock. I also turn on auto-hiding for it. Nice, clean desktop.

But I guess each to their own. :)

You mean typing <Command><Space> followed by the first few letters of the app's name? Hardly fu! :p

I find the Dock useful for two things: the little red number in Mail and Reminders, and as a place to put apps that I tend to drop files onto.

I've tried doing without it recently. It does seem as though Apple is moving away from depending on it. LaunchPad for launching (as well as all the many other methods); Notification Centre removes the need to see the little red numbers; and the ability to know whether an app is loaded in memory or not looks like its becoming redundant.
Who knows, perhaps the Dock will get phased out?

i started on a 12" powerbook; the dock just seemed a waste or screen real estate...

in ML, i:
open apps with launchpad.
have MailUnreadMenu (a menubar icon pops up when i have email).
2 aliases on my desktop that open folders to basically, everything i need to reach.

simple, workable. and (now on a 13" MacBook Pro), i can work "fullscreen" (with the menu bar ALWAYS visible).

for me...perfect!

looks like mavericks doesn't work with this delay command. We can still change the indicators and separator and cursor. But we can't make the bottom dock 2d, or change color at all on the 3d, 2d.

am sure there's a terminal command that will work in 10.9...
