Hi everyone,

a question, when exactly do you need a dock / hub with its own power supply e.g. CalDigit TS3 Plus.

I am currently looking for one that can HDMI @ 60Hz, Ethernet and USB.

There are many "normal" hubs here, but also real docks with power supply - only when do you need them or what is better?

Thanks for your help!

If you want to run bus powered devices (eg a portable USB had/ssd) from the hub/dock, or if you want to use it with a laptop and have it charge the laptop.

Ah okay, that means I don't necessarily need one with a power supply for my purposes?

That would depend on what USB devices you are connecting. If they need power from the hub then you may need a powered hub. If they have their own power supply, or do not need much power, then an unpowered hub may work.
