Yesterday after using Front Row, I went back to desktop and... surprise! Dock was gone. Well, actually not gone. Just hiding. I checked the Dock options in System Preferences and, of course, the Automatically Hide Dock option was unchecked. I had never used it before. I had to check it and uncheck it to make the dock stay.

Sometimes I think Leopard has many of this kind of bugs.

Sounds more like a front row bug - it hides the dock and the menu bar - Apparently it forgot to unhide the dock when it quit. Try using front row again to see if it happens again.

that makes sense. it could be with front row. it didn't happen the other times i used it. this was the first time since the security update, though.

It actually seems as if this is a bug in leopard when your Mac's graphics cards and/or proccessors are being used heavily. It should pop back up quickly if it happens and it won't happen at all if you keep the Dock on the side OR use the hack to make the bottom dock 2D.
