I guess it is a little more deep then just on or off.

For example I have my dock hidden so it is a reasonable size where as if I had it displayed I would want it tiny as possible and as such would probably use magnification.

I didn't want to overcomplicate it. It's just a simple question. Just look at your dock and if you don't mind post if magnification is on or off. As simple as that!

I have dock magnification on, but only a little bit, just enough so the icons grow to about 1.5 times their original size when I roll over them with the mouse. No real need for it for me, because my icons are easily noticed already, but it is a nice added effect for me.

My magnification slider is set to about 1/2, Dock size is about 1/4 and is hidden at the bottom of the screen.

I do a similar small dock with slight magnification on my macbook with its small screen, but I keep the dock a bit larger with no magnification on my imac. The imac's larger screen makes minimizing the dock not so necessary.

Off.

Size about the middle of the slider.

I liked magnification at the beginning, but more and more I disliked that it came into my way more and more.

I was thinking about this today and how helpful it would be if there was a poll on this. Default is off, but I have mine on at low magnification. I might turn it off however. It's been driving me nuts when I try and adjust the window size from the bottom right corner and I stray a little too far (happens often) and activates the dock magnification. It has become very frustrating over time.

Off on my laptop which is the machine I use the most. The dock is off to the left as well. I very rarely use the dock at all on my laptop as I do most things via Quicksilver.

On my Mac Mini, I have it on as I have a 19" widescreen monitor and do much more mouse driving.

I have my dock fairly small, so I have about 1.75x magnification turned on to make the icons easier to aim and click, with the added benefit of looking cool.

I have it off. I find no real need for it as I keep my dock relatively large.

I have moved it to the left side of the screen, and have never looked back. Between the title bar and a readable dock on the measly 800 vertical pixels of my MB, it just doesn't work out for me. Windows have to be that much smaller, so taking advantage of all that horizontal space seemed a much better option, to me (at least until I get a big external monitor with some REAL screen real estate to play with)

Home: OFF, quite small dock on left.
Work: OFF, smallish dock on bottom.
Barely touch the dock. Use Quicksilver a lot.

Interesting to see how most people have magnification ON but the minority OFFers had more to say.

I use small icons on the Dock that magnify almost all the way.
