Dock Question (Avid and Final Cut)

I was wondering, is there a way to get the bottom dock to minimize when using certain programs? I'd like it to be on for most normal use, but I would like to know if there is a way i could set it to minimize when using Avid Media Composer or Final Cut Pro?

Strangely enough, when starting Avid MC on any of my Snow Leopard systems, the Dock automatically hides. Have you got the latest updates for MC for Lion, if they are there?

Or you could always just press CMD + OPTION + D.
