Dock question

I'm confused about something-

In order to use my MBP in clamshell mode, I always have to connect the mini display port while it's still open, then close it and rewake it in clamshell mode.
But it won't wake if I connect the mini display port or other peripherals after the lid has been closed.

But all the videos for various docks show them putting the MBP into the docks already asleep and then waking with no problem.

Am I missing something here?

You simply have to have a bluetooth or USB keyboard connected to the machine, it'll wake right up at a press of a key.

yes what he said Clamshell mode requires an external keyboard or mice attached and attached to a power adapter and of course an external display
