Has anyone tried this? Looks like a cool idea and would work in my basement — a dock socket for the HomePod Mini.

I know a couple of people on Reddit have tried them. Personally I wouldn’t unless there was no other choice. The sound doesn’t fire up, or in the case of this dock, down. The sound fires out. HomePod needs a firm surface to sit on. HomePods that don’t sit on solid surfaces don’t sound great IMO. Really I think it comes down to what your expectations are and the purpose of your setup. If it’s just for HomeKit and Siri I’d say go for it. I think this may even be fine for spoken word. If it’s for music you’ll need to think about if you can live with the consequences.

This is no judgment. I’ve made the same sacrifice for one of my own minis. This is the only place in my newly remodeled bathroom with an outlet. And sink and back of the toilet are the only counter space in here. Counter space had to be sacrificed because this is an accessible bathroom with a roll-in shower for me. The main requirement was space for my shower wheelchair. I don’t listen to music in here because I prefer books to music so it’s fine for me. And when I do listen to music I’m fine with the sacrifices made because there’s no other choice. No HomePod should ever be this close to a wall. But for my needs this works perfectly.
