It looks like that documents folder is in iCloud. That is the default for new Macs. Were the PDF files on iCloud or on the physical drive?

Check to see if they’re on the physical drive

yeah it was on the physical on my old MBA and when I did the transfer on my new MBA everything was fine until today ..I was able to go on my Time Machine backup and restored some PDF,but not all of them.So hopefully when I start adding new documents I won't run into problems .

If you store them on iCloud, you won’t have to worry about losing them during a transfer. I believe this is why Apple encourages iCloud because it’s not dependent on the hardware. Of course always have a back up if it’s really important. Even with iCloud, you could delete something by mistake and then realize your error.
