Dodgy Transmission donate money thing?

I might just be being paranoid about this but a pop-up came up asking me to Donate to the Transmission Team, I checked "NO" and clicked the never prompt again option and then my torrent download speed slowed down. This was on my laptop but on my other mac the same torrent was still running fast. Do you have to donate for the download speed to remain high? Because that would totally suck ass...
