I searched the forum and Google and couldn't find anything mentioning it. Is the lock screen any different at all?

I've been running the beta on a dev phone. The notifications and lock window are pretty much the same. If you can jailbreak your phone check out Lockinfo.

Yea I am jailbroken now. I was hoping Apple would at least have the same little notification icons up top that I was able to get that shows me when I have mail, texts, or a missed call.

As a poster above mentions, maybe they'll add it on...But I doubt it.

So much waste of precious real estate in the notification bar.

There's a reason it's called a NOTIFICATION bar.

There was only one new notification and it was for location services.

Apps can put up a notification bar at the top, same as the one that shows up when tethering is on or you leave the phone app during a call. Demoed during the keynote with the Skype app.

That's not an "app putting it up." Any app that has the microphone enabled when you hit the the home button will have the red double-height status bar (until the app totally quits). It's part of the VoIP APIs in 4.0.

The OP is talking about a little icon for missed calls, new emails, etc near the battery indicator like on JB phones.

Only time will tell.

Excellent post.

Ahem.

Now I'm not saying that some of the stuff people put on their status bar via jailbreak isn't useful or cool. I used to use a mail notifier before I stopped bothering to jailbreak and it was indeed handy. But part of me cringes at the thought of a bunch of icons jammed into a status bar...though Apple would probably figure out the least aggregious way to do it if they decided to, which I have a feeling they won't.

A status bar jammed with crappy cartoonish icons is soooo Motorola circa 2002.
