My 3Gs was having several issues including a battery going from 80 to zero percent.

I did mail in service, and I'm suppose to get a refurbished (replacement) phone tomorrow.

My phone was in very good cosmetic condition, basically no scratches, etc.

Are the refurbished phones in like new cosmetic condition too?

Thanks!!!

I had my iPod touch and iPhone replaced. Both replacement units looked brand new, and actually the iPod looked better than the first one when it was brand new.

refurbished phones from Apple are phones that have been tested, cleaned and then put in a new case and a new battery. Therefore it will look new and the only way to tell a difference is by the serial number.

Yup they look new. If you close your eyes and not see the Genius take them out of the white boxes, you won't tell if it was a refurb or new one when you open your eyes! :p

When I had mine replaced the Genius told me that they don't know if the phone is NEW or a refurb. According to the Genius I dealt with, it could potentially be a new phone.
