Hey Folks,

I plan on equipping my MacBook Pro with an SSD hard disk. Since we have a NAS at home I want to store my iTunes music library on the NAS, thus saving up space on the SSD.

I also heard that SSDs have a much more limited read/write durability than a "convententional" hard drive, this leads me to the following question:

When streaming music (via FTP/HTTP/...) that's located on the NAS to my laptop, do the files pass through the macbook's (local) hard drive, thus causing a continuous write/read/delete, or does it just pass through something like RAM ?

Thanks in advance!

As long as there is physical memory available, it should just be using ram to pre cache.
