Despite a thorough search I haven't managed to find an answer to this question:

Does an ultra wide display running two windows count as one display or two?

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini with an LG34UM95 ultra wide display. It runs perfectly at 3440x1440, allowing me (using LG's Screen-Split app) to run two apps side by side as though I were using two separate monitors but with one dock.

Can I add a third screen (running another app) by using the HDMI output on my Mac Mini? Ideally I would keep the single dock.

Thank you in advance!

I'm a tad confused here, honestly. Regardless of any software, you know that you can have as many windows as you want on a single display, yeah?

Whether it counts as one display or not might depend on the connection type. With near 100% certainty I would assume it to be just one, but the 5K iMac sort of is 2 displays internally stitched together with Display Port Multistream Transport. - If you have Windows on it and look in the Radeon driver panel you'll be able to see it show as two displays that combine to do 5K.

But I have no idea what this Screen Split app thing is about

Are you using the software that allows 'Windows' where you want and thus you can split it down the middle?
I have that on my Samsung C49". However, not tried it on the Mac (I have a Windows PC and a Mac connected). But, since it is software, it would only be seen as 'one' monitor...
