So I took the leap and bought a base model Penryn MBP. So far I love it.

Heres my problem...if my hand gets near or rests on the left speaker the screen dims.

Anyone else have this problem?

One of the ambient light sensors is behind the left speaker grill (think there's another on the right) so if you block it, the screen dims as it thinks you are in a dark environment. In system preferences > display right under the resolution list, there is a check box for 'dim screen as ambient light changes'

that will disable the feature.

Thanks I figured thats what it was just wanted to make sure my metal bracelet wasn't interfering with anything

Just gave it a try, only does that for me if I put my hands over both speakers.

Wow, that was annoying :p. It certainly makes you aware of it's Mighty ambient light sensor. Thanks for the tip, macrumors proves most useful as always.
