Found that all the whistles and bells were driving me to distraction...
It became a WTF?
Turned everything off and all is well... any thoughts?

I think you wasted your money. Turning some things off sure but everything? A smart watch just isn’t for you.

I’ve done the same, notifications aren’t that important to me, I’d like to enjoy the peace and quiet I get

I still have the Activity rings on (which I don’t care for tbh), and I use Siri to turn my lightbulb on and off

But that’s about it, other than that I use it as a pretty watch that tells me the time and date, which is worth it to me

Honestly the new App Dock killed the ease of use

I never used to wear a watch and if the AW didn’t have all the monitoring, notifications etc, I wouldn’t be wearing this one either.

To each their own I guess.

yes... of course. I prefer to use my phone for all that stuff.
I like the watch though.

The new dock was one of the best changes they made in my opinion.

There are times where I use the Apple Watch just for checking the time if I didn't utilize any other if it's capabilities. Also, I am in power saving mode, then it also only serves as time piece. Obviously it has multiple functions, but everybody uses the Watch differently.

I have a gen1 and it's so slow now than using it as a watch is all i really do. When i first got it (and before the updates made it dog slow) i used every feature including siri. Now it's faster to pull my phone out. Not sure if i'll upgrade to the latest version. My 6s phone has also gotten very slow. The slowest any of my iphones has ever gotten, even after a wipe.

I have most notifications turned off. Only really important stuff gets through to the watch. Everything else can wait.

That said, I love Hey Siri (home kit, mostly), fitness and glancing at the temp/weather as I head outdoors. Those little things are worth it to me.

I swear, when the AW first came out I couldn't think of how it would be useful to me. Then I forgot about it. I'll be coming into my tax refund soon so I took another look at the AW. Sure it does a lot of things. A lot of things that I can do with my iPhone which is in my pocket.

I like watches and was thinking of getting an AW just to use it as a watch, calendar notifications and for Apple Pay maybe. Can I do that with a Series 0 watch? Or has the AW software rendered that model unusable. If I'm only using it as a watch I might as well go as cheaply as I can.

Its mostly a watch for me - series 0 here. That and Apple Pay - yes that still works on a 0. I just updated my OS yesterday and its still running fine. Not a fan of the new dock but I’ll get used to it

Even if the first Gen Apple isn't supported for WatchOS 5, it still could function for other capabilities, but still be used as a time piece if one wanted too.

Same for me; hadn’t worn a watch in decades. Wear the S2for notifications, time, date, and weather. That’s it for me.

Edit: forgot to include pedometer.

Well after unhooking from phone, I'm using activity with the rings... I walk a lot. Heart rate occasionally. Thats about it.
I'm perfectly happy with it, plus I get nearly 3 days battery.

Very interested it other views. I really hated the notifications... A quiet life I seek.

The AW is all about being connected. I really don't want to be connected. Or at least I want to be connected on my terms. If I buy an AW it will be to get a watch that lets me change the faces and complications. Maybe Apple Pay. The rest of it I can do on my iPhone. So the questions for me are, how much do I want to spend and how much life to the various models have?

Yep. Though I do use the heart monitor. It is not connected to my iPhone as my 7 Plus usually has no service outside the house (Unless I connect it to my hot spot) because I'm using a V30+ with my SIM.

Outside of the time and date function of any of my watches apple stays on the wrist to provide.
Quick and simple music control.
Stock indicator but I got to say over this last year its always green so its not as big an issue as it was in 2016.
I detest having a phone constantly in my hand like third leg.
The watch shows if a call is important so I don't look like another quick draw. And the phone is always on silent.
Love the rings as a nudge to stay more active.
Usually in buildings or bunkers and appreciate the weather indicator especially when traveling.
Using a sleep app along with the watch to make the most of the little I get. Enrolled in the heart study too, pay it forward.
Still use hey siri when I have my hands full, at the controls, cooking, etc.
Mostly timer, home kit, sending a quick text.
90 % of the add on apps are useless to me compared to the builtin functionality.
I would also agree the washington post and other news notifications are next to useless in my world

I like to use a high information faces at work, and simple faces at home. You can swipe back and forth between faces, so just display a simple watch face most of the time and leave the complications turned off. Leave them on for the next face and just swipe back and forth.

Anoher way to minimize distractions is to become ruthless about notifications. Don’t let many apps notify you, and soon you will find that your iPhone is much less distracting as well since you can make it totally silent.
