Does anybody know how long it takes for my old numbers to port to my new iPhones?

Im switching with T-mobile and I am going to call tomorrow to make sure my numbers are ported, but Iv read on their FAQS that is takes 1-4 days for the numbers to port and you cannot receive calls during that process?!

Is it a quick minute or does it really take this long?

1-4 days. That is ridiculous. A friend ported to AT&T and they gave him a temp number to use till the port took place the next day. Got a text message and it was over.
