I have noticed that BTO orders on these are shipping in 7-10 days from now, and I've checked 5 stores to no avail. Need this for a business trip to NZ in a week (small macbook screen just won't cut it with microarray data sets) and I'm hoping to pick it up physically rather than play my luck with placing an order.

ya i need to know as well, i need one for work by the end of next week, i called 4 stores and all i got was a idont know

FWIW, when my husband was picking up my new MBP at an Apple store in CT last night two of the employees were discussing the 17" hi-rez version with the manager and he said he wasn't expecting any in the store for a couple of weeks. He even commented on the long on-line wait.

They actually had just delivered a few of the 15.4 "ultimate" versions (2.6Ghz + 7200 RPM HDD).

i may be all wet, but wouldn't apple think that almost everyone who buys a 17" would want a high-resolution, led backlit display and that the standard resolution/non-led would be the exception...especially for a measly $100 on a ~$3k machine?

i just don't understand why the lower rez/non-led isn't just a downgrade bto option...

this wait blows but I know will be worth it the mac book pro is one he'll of a machine.

I ordered mine on the 26th... still hasn't shipped. I got the base 17" model with the high res matte screen. I'm impatient... I want it here now, although it seems were all in the same boat, at least.

Ships by: Mar 6 - Mar 11

17" High Resolution w/matte display with 200 Gig HD and 2 Gigs of RAM is going to be the higher end model that some stores will offer...I actually saw the price list but they didn't have it in stock yet. I was told by a friend, that works at a local :apple: store that it's suppose to come in middle of next week. Since it's exactly what I was going order online BTO but, they beat me to it...awesome...I'd rather pick it up at the store. I know that Fry's electronics was selling the old inventory at a 20% discount.

I'm excited it'll be my first Mac!!! I do a ton of music editing and video editing and my PC was just horribly slow.

It's what I've been saying.

17" is taking longer,
Hi-res upgrade even longer,
and Glossy even longer.

Ordered 17" hi-res matte on Feb 26
Ships by: Mar 6 - Mar 11
Delivers by: Mar 10 - Mar 14

good thing I'm getting all three of those plus final cut ore-installed then, huh.

Thanks for all of the replies, it would be interesting to continue to follow everyone's order status. I hope the mid-week rumor holds true, but if not, I'll have to go for the 15" LED or the 17" normal res, neither of which are bad options...

dont downgrade because of shipping time.... is it really worth getting your computer a couple weeks earlier....

I find it annoying that I ordered my computer 2 days before you did and will recieve it 5 - 12 days later.... I dont care what you order if they let you BTO they need to ship faster....

i agree. im desperate for them to be more common in store cos im going to america next week and im only there for 3 days. if they dont have the high res in store i wont settle for the normal one. i will have to buy the high res in the uk where the same model costs £400 more

My little brother has been calling apple store 24/7 for his high-res and I just look at him and laugh with my Air.

We were unable to get any and I was willing to drive him up and down california for it and no one had them in stock. I reserved it with my little brother name and my name to make sure at lease one of us is getting a Hi Res MBP.

Yes, I remember when the 15" led mbp SR first were released, they put my name at the apple store on a list and actually called me on my cell phone that it has arrived.
